Kelly came to her first Pilates class in 2007, tired of her usual routine of cardio and weights at the gym. She was instantly hooked. Three years later, Kelly opened her own Pilates studio Fuel Pilates in Georgetown DC—fulfilling her dream of getting from out behind a computer and creating a space where people can challenge themselves physically and mentally, yet are still able to laugh and enjoy themselves. Kelly’s classes are energetic, fun, yet challenging. She’ll work you out hard while cheering you on. She’ll encourage you to push yourself and be a stronger version of yourself tomorrow. Kelly received her initial pilates mat certification from Power Pilates of New York City. She then completed the BASI Comprehensive Course (Body Arts and Science International) which qualifies her to teach mat, reformer, cadillac, chair and other apparatus. She also completed a pre/post-natal certification with Carolyne Anthony—the industry’s expert on the subject— from The Center of Women’s Fitness and BASI.
In September of 2010, Kelly brought the Xtend Barre method to Fuel Pilates & DC, and then added Xtend Barre DC in Novemeber of 2012. When Kelly is not working at the studio, she enjoys traveling with her husband. But, ironically, whenever she’s on the road, she tries to find pilates wherever she is. Over the years she’s done pilates at the Pilates Center of Boulder, Colorado, the home of Xtend Barre in Boca Raton, Florida, visited Xtend Barre Nashville, as well as Lake Tahoe, California, Aspen, Steamboat Springs, England, Spain, France and even Bermuda!
Catherine first discovered Xtend Barre shortly after moving to DC in the summer of 2013. She fell in love with the unique combination of Pilates and dance Xtend offers with its accessibility to clients of all fitness backgrounds, challenging and energizing movements, and precise technique. She has a B.A. in Dance from DeSales University, and while she is not at the Xtend “barre,” she is teaching dance in Beltsville and Greenbelt, as well as performing with the Philly based dance company, New Street Dance Group. Catherine hopes to meet you at the barre!
Hayley discovered Xtend Barre classes at Fuel Pilates in 2011. She was immediately hooked and completed Xtend Barre and Mat Pilates instructor certifications the following year. Hayley loves the results of Xtend, which include increased flexibility, stamina, and strength, and she believes her students will too. She hopes that students will leave her classes feeling strong and confident!
Sharon is AFAA, BASI Pilates, and Xtend Barre certified. She became a group fitness instructor in spring 2009. After taking Xtend classes at Fuel in 2010, Sharon was hooked. She thought, “Here is a workout that combines all aspects of exercise that I previously needed to take, or teach multiple classes to achieve!” Sharon promises a fun, yet challenging experience at the barre, and always encourages her students to push their limits.
Born and raised in Chicago, Melissa started tumbling at the age of 3. This early exposure to fitness and movement led her to seek a pilates certification in 2006. While pursuing her graduate studies at Georgetown University in 2010, Melissa discovered Xtend Barre and fell in love with the fusion of dance and pilates. She is both Xtend Barre and pilates mat certified. Additionally, Melissa is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and works in the Washington, DC area.
Sara grew up taking ballet, tap, and jazz in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and later danced in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular as a Radio City Rockette for five years. Her passion of dance led her to the fitness industry where she became a certified Pilates and Xtend Barre instructor. She enjoys helping people stay fit and achieve their workout goals.
Kaia is a certified Pilates mat and Xtend Barre instructor. A dancer from the age of three, Kaia trained with Ballet Chicago, the School of American Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre. She started her professional ballet career immediately after high school, dancing with the American Ballet Theatre II and the Pennsylvania Ballet. Throughout her career, Pilates was a staple in her exercise routine due to its added benefits to her work and overall physical health and strength. Having retired from dancing in 2011 to complete her Bachelor’s degree at Georgetown University, she craved an exercise method that mimicked both the training and the results of her years as a dancer. Two weeks after moving to D.C. she found Xtend Barre at Fuel Pilates, and has been addicted ever since. She is incredibly excited to share her obsession with others.
Christie is an Xtend client turned instructor. She loves the energy and grace that she feels when she Xtends and tries to share this amazing feeling with her classes. Christie has practiced pilates since 2007, holds a mat certification from Power Pilates, and also enjoys high intensity and strength training.

Christina’s dance background includes performing as a teen in a traveling group “Dance Fusion,” at major events across the U.S. and she was a member of the USC and Villanova University dance teams. Her hobbies outside of barre and dance include eating, going out with friends in DC and traveling. She is originally from NJ and works in clinical research.
